Dendermonde is a railway junction in the city of Dendermonde that was opened in 1837 together with railway line 53. In 1853 the connection with Aalst followed via railway line 57 and in 1856 with Lokeren. In 1877, railway line 56 was opened. In 1880 Dendermonde was connected to railway line 52 and in 1881 railway line 60 followed, connecting Dendermonde with Asse and Brussels-North.
