The Leopold Park park was opened to the public in 1880 after as the unpopular Royal Zoological Garden (Jardin Royal de Zoologie) had been removed. During the following years, the famous Solvay School of Commerce was established in the park. One of these houses housed the scientific Solvay Conference, once joined by Albert Einstein, Henri Poincaré, Hendrik Lorentz and Marie Curie.
