Sint-Maria-Latem is one of the municipalities of the merged municipality of Zwalm in the Belgian province of East Flanders.
Historically, the parish belonged to the Barony of Gavere (elevated to a principality by Emperor Charles V in 1519), in the kasselrij and the Land of Aalst.
The most important monuments are the IJzerkotmolen, according to some sources the oldest paper mill in the Netherlands, and the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Zeven Weeënkerk. The latter has been protected since 1943. Only the early Gothic choir and octagonal celebration tower date from the 13th-14th centuries; the original single-aisled nave was replaced in 1906-1910 by architect A.R. Janssens by a three-aisled nave in Tournai limestone.
