Saint-Hubert is a tourist center in the Ardennes. The area is forested. The town is primarily known for hunting.
The basilica of Saint-Hubert combines a Gothic interior with a Baroque façade. The church took its current form between 1064 and 1700. The towers date back to the mid-13th century. The current vault was built in 1683. The façade was constructed in its present form between 1700 and 1702.
The basilica was part of the monastery of Saint-Hubert, which was founded around 700 by canons at a site then called Andage. In 817, the monastery came under the control of the Benedictines at the request of the bishop of Liège. On September 30, 825, the body of Saint Hubert was transferred from Liège to Andage. The place quickly developed into a pilgrimage site and soon became known as Saint-Hubert.
The basilica houses a number of treasures related to the veneration of St. Hubert, such as several paintings and the woodwork of the choir stalls, which depicts among other things the conversion of Hubert and his consecration as bishop by Pope Sergius I. The church features a high altar of 17 m. tall and an altar of St. Hubert, which contains the Holy Stole. The basilica also contains the tomb of St. Hubert, which was gifted by King Leopold I.
