Cherain is a village in the Belgian province of Luxembourg and a district of Gouvy. Until January 1, 1977, it was an independent municipality. In the district, there are still several other villages and hamlets, such as Brisy, Rettigny, Sterpigny, and Vaux. At the end of the ancien régime, Cherain became a municipality. In 1823, many small municipalities were merged during municipal reorganizations in Luxembourg, and the neighboring municipality of Rettigny was added to Cherain.
