The current municipality of Heers was established in two waves of mergers. Twelve villages together form the municipality of Heers: Batsheers,
Gutschoven, Heers, Heks, Horpmaal, Klein-Gelmen, Mechelen-Bovelingen, Mettekoven, Opheers, Rukkelingen-Loon, Vechmaal, and Veulen. Together, they have just under seven thousand inhabitants.
Do not leave Heers without tasting the delicious Haspengouw. This can be done at De heren van Heers across from the parking lot at Delhaize or a bit further in The Passage, at the intersection with the road to Sint-Truiden.
