There are a few wonderful theories about the name Schellebelle. According to the first, the name Schellebelle originated from the bell on the Scheldt, with which one could and can call the ferry. In addition, there is the association with the shrill sound of a bell. Others attribute the name Schellebelle to the winding in the Scheldt that one used to see and which was described on the French boats, which came to sell their pots, as quelle belle. The sale of pots has continued in the Schellebel tradition through the annual regionally renowned pot market.
