The author Henry Robbert Addison who traveled around the world in the 19th century was immediately in love with Mechelen. He came for a visit here in 1843. He made a travel guide 'Belgium as She Is'. He predicted that Mechelen would be overwhelmed by wealthy Britons. He had never seen such a neat city before.
