Wijgmaal is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. In the municipal reorganization of 1977, the residential core was ceded by Herent to Leuven. In 2019 it had a population of 3802 and the total area is 4.59 km². Edouard Remy and Felix Remy bought grain and oil mills in 1855 to start the Remy factory. At that time, three workers worked in the mills. In the Wijgmalenhoek there were only 54 houses and the small village had about 350 inhabitants. The first factories of Remy on the Dijle were partly on the territory of Herent and partly on that of Wilsele. Wilsele later ceded the 3.80 ha plot of land to the municipality of Herent, but since the merger in 1977 the piece of land belongs to the city of Leuven. Remy's factories are located along the Leuven canal.
