Opvelp is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant and part of the municipality of Bierbeek. Opvelp was an independent municipality until the municipal reorganization of 1965. The name refers to the river Velp, which originates in the village and flows towards the Demer via Neervelp. The name likely comes from the Celtic falw-apa, "yellow water," or fel-apa, "fierce, turbulent water."
