History Colostrum mill:

The history of this watermill dates back to before 1063 as it already belonged to the possessions of the Count of Flanders, from which he donated the income from the mill to the then founded abbey of Ename to provide for the livelihood of the Benedictine monks.

Major renovations will take place from 1868 onwards. First the miller's house was tackled and enlarged in 1871 as the year above the entrance door indicates. Then it was the turn of the mill in 1883. Two storeys will be added and a five-metre widening by the stream flowing along the southern side will be vaulted and the wheel will be placed inside the building. The advantage of being able to grind without ice during the winter is gladly included.

The monocylinder diesel with heating head that is still present today probably dates from 1913. With the expansion of the electricity grid in Nederzwalm, an Acec engine of 15 hp was also put into service.

With the increase in scale of agriculture and the arrival of industrial mills, the mill activities were gradually lost. After an accident while lubricating a bearing, the last miller lost his life. The activity of the mill came to a standstill and decay set in. It has been a protected monument since 28 July 1983. In 1987 the mill was purchased by Gerard Braillon who established a catering business in it. The recent owner renewed the interior in 2008.
