City Archive Maaseik

The City Archives manages the urban archive of the city of Maaseik from before 1900. Interesting for genealogical research are certainly the baptismal, marriage, and death registers of all the districts of Maaseik. All these registers have been put on microfilm.

Don't be mistaken, not everything is what it seems ... Real or false, made of stone or flesh and blood, you can't always see it with the naked eye. Living statues mimic figures from paintings by Van Eyck. They are displayed in each of the four main streets. The Van Eyck figures regularly gather in the market square to form a true 'tableau vivant'.

All, whether rightly or wrongly, negative and positive interpretations of our identity over time will be addressed! For one day, Maaseik shows its soul. Nothing up the sleeves, nothing in the pockets. You can also see the traces of this 'operation' in the shop windows of the city center...
