The society has a digital photo archive of Sint-Gillis-Waas: events, buildings, people, festivities, parades, processions, education, associations, etc. Of the more than 7000 photos, 1000 are available for consultation.

exhibition: The dreamed reality in photos
In the first half of the previous century, people dreamed of a photo in a wish decor: an airplane, a boat, a car, a tropical forest, etc. We showcase the most beautiful examples from our photo archive. Retouched photos made you look better than in reality, and colored photos were a luxury. You will also find those in our photo archive. With those manipulated photos from our archive, it's bound to be a laugh!
exhibition: Drieske Nijpers: miracle doctor?
In 1852, miracle doctor Drieske Nijpers (1826-1853) from Sint-Gillis-Waas gained fame both at home and abroad. He owed this fame to his 'talent' for healing people by pinching them at the painful spots. How 'fake' was this extraordinary talent of the uneducated Drieske Nijpers? The superstitious people praised him, but the licensed doctors dragged him to court. The local history society and the municipal archive tell the life of this notorious quack through a few scarce archive documents, portraits, and a series of authentic newspaper articles.
