tour: An Otto van Veen in Roeselare... or not?
You will receive an explanation of the painting 'The Wedding at Cana', by a Flemish master from the 17th century, mistakenly attributed to Otto van Veen. Using several detail photos, the level of forgery will be demonstrated. The significance of the performed miracle and a surprising comparison between the course of a wedding in Christ's time and a wedding party during the 17th century will also be discussed.
Family-friendly: For children, it will be an exciting discovery tour, for adults a reminder of the Biblical story.
tour: A stroll with historicity. The Belfry of Roeselare
In 1925, the town hall was extended with a new wing. The tower recalls the old belfry that stood on the Grote Markt until the 18th century, next to the medieval hall. In the belfry itself, you will receive an explanation about the painting by Gaston Vallaeys. The work depicts the opening of the annual market in 1552, but... with local figures from the 19th and early 20th century!
