Statue Simon Stevin

Source: Pascal Brackman

The Bruges scholar and inventor Simon Stevin performed his famous drop tests on the tower of Delft in the 16th century, proving that heavier and lighter objects fall at the same rate. This is contrary to what Aristotle once claimed and was then generally accepted. Later, Galileo would repeat the test on the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. Galileo became famous for it. Few know that it was done by Simon Stevin before.
