Castle of Kwabeek

The castle park "Kwabeek" is centrally located in the valley of the Velpe, where several castle parks are still present. They, along with meadows, hayfields, ponds, marsh forests, and poplar plantations, create the typical image of the valley areas. The domain of Kwabeek was a fief of the Duchy of Brabant. At the end of the 15th century, it was known as "Ter Sluizen." Count Robert de Liedekerke purchased the entire domain in 1893, and in turn, he had numerous modifications made to the building, which takes on a neo-Renaissance appearance. The municipal government of Boutersem bought the park and the castle in 1980, while the outbuildings were sold to private individuals. The fact that there were always different owners has played a role in the development of the park.
