Cristal Alken is a pilsner beer that was created in Belgium in May 1928 by Jozef Indekeu and Edouard Boes in Alken. Today, the beer is brewed in the Limburg Brewery of Alken. At the time of Cristal's foundation, many Belgian brewers were not yet able to produce bottom-fermented beer, which is why the product was hailed as revolutionary. Jozef Indekeu, Edouard Boes and their family of brewers were at the basis of Belgian lager production. The brand grew into the best-known lager in Limburg, but is also distributed far beyond. In 1989, the London brewery was awarded the Gold Medal for quality. On the occasion of its 80th anniversary, Cristal 1928 was launched in 2008, brewed in the style of the original pilsner of the early 20th century.
