The first church was supposed to resemble this one in "Overlaar," a hamlet of Tirlemont; it was the church of the lords of Oorbeek, destroyed in 1635. The destroyed tombstone of the lords of Oorbeek, Rijkel Loobos Vilters. Cathlijn van Oorbeecke died in 1475, and we find him on the wall of the church. The church is in a classical style dating from 1778, built of brick and sandstone. The old cemetery wall located on the west side is a possible explanation in the context of our old church. Until recently, the cemetery of Mr. Henri Persoons, mayor of Tirlemont, appointed by Napoleon in 1808, was located here under the crucifix of the cemetery, but was unfortunately cleared by the city of Tirlemont. The church includes altars from the period 1750-1790, a confessional from 1651, and an organ listed by Adrien Rochet in 1791. It is also quite rare for the floor of the sacristy to be in the same style as that of the church itself. The church will probably soon be classified by Monuments and Sites. It can only be visited during the Eucharistic celebrations that you can find on this site of Oorbeek.
