The Gentbos is a provincial wooded area located in the Poelstraat in the Belgian municipality of Merelbeke, and is naturally known as a swamp forest in the lower parts of it. The 28-hectare domain was purchased by the provincial government of East Flanders in 1990 from the noble Stas de Richelle family. Together with the municipality of Merelbeke, a forest management plan and division of tasks were drawn up in which the aim is to manage the natural forest in the most natural way possible. Variation in the composition of the tree species is chosen, with beech, pedunculate oak and ash, alternating with grassland. The Ghent forest is protected in Europe as part of the Natura 2000 area 'Forests of the southeast of the Sandy Loam Region'.
