The Warande Park is now a public green space. However, until the 18th century, it was the site of the Coudenberg Palace garden. This palace was first home to the Duke of Brabant and then to the house of Habsburg, until burning to the ground in 1731.
After the fire, a completely new court district was created, which even extended to today’s Royal Palace. The proximity of the palace and the elevated location caused other government institutions to come here too, such as the Federal Parliament, the Constitutional Court and the Senate.
From the Warande Park bump down over the cobblestones along one of the city’s most difficult roads for bikes: the Oratoriënberg (Rue Montagne de l'Oratoire).
