On the chapel hangs a plaque of the Liberator drama in Denderwindeke. In an air raid on December 29, 1944, a "Libramont" bomber was hit and seven of the nine-man American crew members had to leave the aircraft with their parachute. Due to the low altitude, it was fatal for two crew members, one of them in the vicinity of the St. Leonard's Chapel. His body was laid out in the chapel, 2nd Lt Cletus E. Bedore.
