Zingem is located in the alluvial plain of the Scheldt, in the transition area of Sandy and Sandy Limbo Flanders.
The peripheral areas of the Scheldt are bordered on the east side by a clear steep border and on the west an alluvial plain.
Landscape and geomorphological, Zingem comprises two zones:
a) The canal-rich, uninhabited Scheldt valley, with vast meadows and a few cut-off meanders, the green lung = logo municipal letterhead
b) the gently sloping western slope of the Scheldt valley with more arable land.
For a long time, clay was extracted and wiped (= twigs) and wives were cut down on the low willow stumps. The municipality of Zingem has a long tradition of baking the famous Scheldt stone and weaving baskets and making seating furniture.
The clay pits and reed beds of yesteryear are today a canal-rich area with an interesting fauna and flora.
Zingem has a lot of nature reserves, in the Weistraat we have: Kleiput Van De Moortele, The Nature Reserve De Weiput with hide and De Bulck.
There are several meanders that are now used as fishing waters such as the Spettekraai and the Messureput, and at the Rijtbos.
We also have valuable meadows such as the Grootmeers and Kleinmeers.
We look at the landscape of the Scheldt valley from the Meuleken 't Dal and see:
The Alluvium of the Scheldt: in the W a flat and an eastern steep edge.
