The Pensionnat Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle was built between 1896 and 1898. In the early years, it only housed German students. In 1914, it was opened to French speakers. In 1940, it was occupied by the Nazis and housed part of the Hitler Youth. Later, it became a shelter for children of prisoners of war. On January 8, 1945, the building was hit by a phosphorus bomb. The building is now privately owned and was converted into apartments in 1966. The park was purchased by the parish of Grand-Halleux.
