This Neo-Gothic church was part of the Augustinian abbey. It is a typical hall church It was already mentioned in 1119 and it has been renovated several times. The side tower, the south transept and the aisles were erected between 1435 and 1496.
When you enter the church, you are moved by the wealth of renaissance. The oldest part of the church goes back to the 13th century. The front church, between the transept and the sanctuary was used as abbey church by the Augustinians of the St Peter’s Abbey (1093-1797). In the abbey church, the nave served as office choir, the north aisle as abbot chapel and the back church as parish church. In 1578 the beggars plundered the entire building and in 1580 it was completely destroyed by a fire. In the first half of the 17th century the building was rebuilt in the same style. The French Revolution chased the monks and the entire church became parish church.
