Description

The lighting along this old railway connection has been a source of bickering between the City of Ghent and the Flemish government for years.

The environmental permit included a condition to provide adapted, point-by-point and low lighting, as a point of reference for the walker or cyclist. The lighting should be a maximum of 75 centimeters high and only focused on the path. Now, however, there are meter-high, black lampposts along the route. The current lighting poles are strongly visible in the open landscape and accentuate the old railway bed in particular.

But the City of Ghent does not want to replace the lighting poles.

A fine example of bickering that only raises your eyebrows as a citizen.
