The Rabot has neighborhoods characterized by poverty, high unemployment, large concentrations of migrants, and many old, poorly maintained homes. However, this part of Ghent also has enormous potential. Here and there, seeds of revitalization are already emerging. At Wiedauwkaai, there is a sales point for Italian furniture design, and at Gasmeterlaan, Jan Hoet Jr. opened a trendy café-restaurant; nearby, construction is in full swing for the new courthouse. Ambitious plans are being developed for the Muide and Dampoort, including residential areas by the water. A high-quality business park can further enhance this new dynamic and will provide a clear economic added value in the northern part of the city.
