In 1972, the tower mill was converted into a reception place for visitors. Three years later, significant restoration work was carried out again by the mill builders Peel from Gistel. The fence, the flying gallery, as well as the tail and the cap were completely renewed. The mill also received a thorough paint job. The Herentmolen is, besides the now dismantled Geluveldmolen, the only remaining tower mill in Flanders equipped with a flying gallery. The mill was last restored in 1975 and 2005. The mill is again capable of milling, but is no longer operating (2009).
