According to legend, the altar of St. Gudula's Church was placed above the tomb of St. Gudula. Saint Gudula (in Latin Gudila, later also Gudula) is said to have lived between 680 and 714. Legend has it that every morning she went to a St. Salvator's church in the vicinity of her home in Moorsel (about 15 km from this place). To make her stray from the road to the church, the devil blew out the candle in her lantern again and again. Thanks to her prayer, the light was lit again and again without the intervention of a human hand. Although according to legend this is the tomb of Saint Gudula, you will not find any relics of her here. However, her teeth are said to have been preserved in the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels. And in the church of Eibingen, the skull of the saint has been kept since the 12th century. Scientific research has shown that the teeth of the saint preserved in Brussels are perfectly matched to the skull in Eibingen.
