Description

A first watermill on the Grote Molenbeek already existed in 1126. The present building was erected in 1735 (year in a brick of the façade on the stream side, next to the remains of a sandstone window frame). Round arched door of arkoze with key and imposts formerly with year 1768 (?) and crowning oculus, recently bricked in and said to come from a demolished farm opposite the castle Innes in Waarbeek.
Thoroughly rebuilt in 1921-22. The water wheel was removed in 1931 and replaced by a Francis turbine in 1941. The last miller was Emile Berben (°1924). On March 10, 1994, the mill was protected as a monument, which includes: the mill building, the lock, the sheet piling, the turbine with cover, the mechanism. The mill was sold in 2005.
