The chapel of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom from 1661

In Kapellestraat at the corner with Hofstraat, we find the 'kapelleke' of Negenhoek in the middle of the street. The chapel stands in front of the houses at Kapellestraat numbers 43 and 45. Here is the old boundary of Erps and Kortenberg. The year 1661 refers to the date of death of Joanna de Plaines, the lady of the castle of Hof ter Brugge in Erps-Kwerps. The chapel O.L. Virgin Sedes Sapientiae is a faithful copy of the chapel of O.L. Virgin of Assistance from 1655 at her castle in Erps. The Baroque chapel is constructed from white sandstone. Two Ionic columns or small columns with curls support a baroque, curved pediment with the cartouche 'In Honor of St. Mary Magdalen 1661'. The roofing is also made of white stone, and there is a porch. On the pedestal of the statue of O.L. Virgin, we find 'H. Maiden, Sedes Sapientiae'. Sedes Sapientiae is Latin for seat of wisdom. Before 1914, the maypole was planted in front of the chapel. During the time of the fair procession, a resting altar was built for the chapel, and then the residents ensured a sand carpet. In 1958, this chapel was replicated in the village of Oud-België at the world exhibition.
