The Town Hall of Lier is a town hall on the Grote Markt of the Belgian city of Lier located in the province of Antwerp. The town hall, built in Brabant Rococo style, is one of the rare examples of public buildings that have been manufactured in this architectural style.
The flourishing cloth trade was the basis for the construction of a cloth hall in 1367; This was where the city magistrate was housed. In 1418, the cloth hall was transferred to the nearby Vleeshuis and from then on the building functioned exclusively as a town hall. After centuries of use, the building had to be restored in the 18th century. The commission for this was given to the well-known master builder Jan Pieter van Baurscheidt the Younger, who was also responsible for the construction of the former royal Palace on the Meir in Antwerp and the tower roofing of the Lierse Sint-Gummarustoren. Eventually, an almost completely new building was created, in which only the side facades are still authentic.
