The St. Vincent Chapel dates back to the 12th century and is elevated on the Kapelleberg. The chapel, colloquially known as "'t Kapelleke Fiecent", was a pilgrimage chapel. Ex-votos brought by pilgrims in the 19th and 20th centuries are displayed in the chapel. The novena of "Saint Vincent" takes place in the last week of January. During this Vincentian novena, geutelingen are also baked, a regional specialty traditionally baked from mid-January to mid-February in many Maarkedal wood-fired ovens.
The chapel is partly built of Tournai sandstone, characteristic of the Romanesque period, but has undergone a number of alterations. The oldest known mention (1569) refers to "chapel Ten Berghe". In 1976, the chapel was protected. During restoration work in the 1980s, the cement plaster was removed, revealing the old door of the original chapel. Inside, you will find a remarkable candle holder and an 18th-century churchwarden's bench. In addition to, among others, the statue of St. Vincent, there is also a naïve folk painting from the 19th century depicting 6 scenes of the martyrdom of this saint.
