The Norbertine Abbey of the Park was founded in 1129, by a donation from Godfrey I with the Beard. Over the centuries, the abbey became an important factor in the ins and outs of Brabant, as a cultural, economic and religious actor, but also as a political player. The abbey never fully recovered from its dissolution during French rule in 1797.
