The Bridge House

Welcome to the Bruggenhuis with Rob, Magda, and Tiago.

Since July 2009, we have breathed new life into the small café on the Dender at Overboelare. However, the origin of the café dates back to after the Second World War when the destroyed lift bridge was replaced by a fixed one and the unemployed bridge keeper started a café there. The atmospheric café is uniquely situated just a few meters from the meandering Dender in an environment of tranquility and authentic enjoyment. The Bruggenhuis is an ideal starting point for beautiful walks or cycling trips in the peaceful surroundings. We are happy to provide you with tips and route descriptions to explore the Flemish Ardennes or the unknown Hainaut from here.

But the Bruggenhuis is more than just a café. The morning is enriched with classical sounds, the afternoon hours expand with worldly music, and the evening is always filled with top-notch jazz. The Bruggenhuis is a place where music plays an essential role because music is the language of the gods, from Bach to Art Blakey and his many messengers. The music not only comes from the speakers but also regularly live. Monthly, we organize a concert of a high standard featuring national or international artists. You can not only taste the better beers with us. From June 2010 onwards, you can also enjoy a small prepared meal with us on Thursday evenings and over the weekend. Everything is prepared with fresh (local) products; we prioritize flavor and presentation, less speed. The smoke of the jazz café now makes way for the delicious aromas from the kitchen. We want to make the Bruggenhuis an oasis on the Dender, where culture, nature, and music flow together. A unique eatery and chat café where everyone who wants to enjoy life is welcome.
