The Palais de la Folle Chanson was built in 1928 by architect Antoine Courtens. Courtens did several internships in Paris, Lyon and in some German cities and also trained with Victor Horta during the period when he was building the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels.
In the course of 1928 he would realize both the hotel Haerens and the Palais de la Folle Chanson in Ixelles. For the latter building, he deftly took advantage of the corner location by placing a roundabout on the corner itself, which is strikingly crowned by a star-shaped section topped by a dome. The facades with their numerous rows of windows give out on the Boulevard Général Jacques and on the Lied der Sotternieënlaan, from which the building owes its name.
In 1986, the apartment building was protected as a monument.
