The Hoguet house is a unique witness to the clothing sector, which was very important for Saint-Gilles from the 19th century until its collapse in the 1980s. In 1929, Mr. Hoguet submitted a construction request for a house/workshop. The company was already very well known. It had a store on the Chaussée de Waterloo and branches in downtown Brussels, Saint Josse, and Schaerbeek. Hoguet collaborated with architect G. Ligo de Forest. He was probably also responsible for the building's interior. The building was handed over to the municipality by the Hoguet family, with the formal desire to assign it a cultural purpose. The edifice was classified as a monument in 1998, and today it is the "Book Centre."
