In 1912, the Sint-Guido brewery was established at the site "kleinemolen" in "Op-Kuregem." In the neighborhood around Vrij Onderzoekstraat and the area of Demetskaai, all activities related to beer production began to centralize: breweries, bottle producers, and brewing equipment factories. Starting from 1912, brewing halls, fermentation rooms, and cellars were also added. In 1924, a series of outbuildings were constructed: stables and offices, a saddlery, washing rooms, and tapping rooms. In the same year, this brewery was renamed "Brasserie Atlas." In 1926, the 30-meter factory beer tower was built, which can be seen from far outside the neighborhood. This tower is not only an example of the advertising use of the Art Deco style by the industry but also of an ingenious construction technique. The brewery's activities ceased in 1952, but Atlas beer continued to be brewed by the Haecht brewery until 1980, which continued to use the buildings in Anderlecht as storage space. A few years ago, Brewery Atlas was purchased by the Emmaüs community (vzw "La Poudrière"). The building was protected in 2001.
