Painter and graphic artist Roger Raveel was born and raised in Machelen, a beautiful village that settles down on the banks of an old arm of the Lys. The museum that bears his name was founded in his native village where he still lives and works.
The Roger Raveel Museum displays the most extensive collection of artworks by one of the most important post-war artists: hundreds of paintings, drawings, graphics, objects and installations. In addition to the permanent collection, which includes an overview of Raveel's painting from the 1950s to the present, the museum presents several temporary exhibitions a year in which Raveel's work is confronted with other national and international artists. The much-talked-about museum building was designed by architect Stéphane Beel. In the village, the building finds its place and emphasizes its reality.
