The 2,066 tombstones are arranged in a straight line opposite the earthen bullet mound. This hill was used as a training ground by the Belgian soldiers, stationed in Ypres until 1914. On top is a granite obelisk that refers to the feats of arms of the 5th Australian Division. At the back is the Missing Memorial in the form of a Greek colonnaded temple.
