So-called "The Noble Rose". According to chronicler P. Heinderycx (1633-1683) based on legend: at the end of the 12th century, residence of Mathilde, widow of Philip of Alsace, later of Gertrude of Saxony, widow of Robert the Frisian, until her death in 1113; subsequently likely involved with the "Knights Templar," and later by the "Knights of Malta." Current building in regional Renaissance style constructed between 1572-1575 on a narrower old 13th-century basement. In the 18th century, owned by the Van Grimbergen family; later by Jaak Albrecht Vermeersch, lord of Allonshove. Restored in 1890, and repurposed as an inn under the current name, see the plaque with the inscription: Rainer Maria Rilke stayed here at the hotel "The Noble Rose" from July 18 to August 2, 1906. After heavy war damage, particularly to the gabled facade, restored according to the design of architect Eugène Dhuicque (Brussels) in 1920. Subsequently owned by a banking institution to this day. Restoration works led by architects Luc and Piet Viérin (Bruges) in 1971 - 1972: renewed roofing, re-pointed facade, and adaptation of interior decor to banking function.
