In Houthulst, they also tried to participate in the emerging industrialization. Around 1928, with the development of the new municipality, a branch of the Eernegem company "L’Alimentaire Belge" (Alibel s.a.) was established at the corner of Eugène de Grootelaan and Stadenstraat. The company, which prioritized good collaboration, aimed to organize the cultivation of vegetables by local farmers, process them itself, and can them. In this way, the local municipal government wanted to create a local alternative for seasonal labor. The project in Houthulst failed, and the factory operated for only a few months (January 1 - October 1, 1930). The Fabrieksput is the only thing that remembers this company.
