In 1953, Gustave Nellens, owner of the Casino of Knokke, asked Magritte to paint the large, round Luchterzaal with a panoramic fresco. These murals were executed by a group of painters under Magritte's supervision. Le domaine enchanté (The Enchanted Domain) offers a synthesis of his famous themes such as the bird-leaf, the therapist, the idealized woman (inspired by Georgette), the tuba with flames, and masked apples.
