This wooded area was a heathland in the distant past. Due to human intervention, it was transformed for forestry. The vloethelmveld can be regarded as the northern spur of the Bulskampveld. You will therefore find homogeneous coniferous forests and mixed coniferous and hardwood plots. In the undergrowth you will find blackberry, rowan, false sage, mosses and all kinds of mushrooms. The southern part of this forest, where you can now often find tourists, was opened to walkers.
