Description

Construction of the Basilica began in 1857, following the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854. Mgr. Malou, bishop of Bruges, wanted a monumental church for the entire diocese to honour this dogma. The plans were by the English architect Welbey Pugin. The church of Dadizele was elevated to the status of a Basilica in 1882. More important is his tomb and a replica of his aunt's tombstone.
