This cemetery is one of the largest German military cemeteries of the First World War.
Since Menin was only a stone's throw from the Western Front, the city was designed according to the needs of the German army. In 1917 the construction of the graveyard began. In 1957-1958, the remains were brought to this military cemetery from 53 different cemeteries. The graveyard is dotted with flattened bluestone tombstones. In the middle is a chapel.
Together with the entrance gate, it was built in 1957-1958 under the direction of the German architect Robert Tischler.
