Dirk Braeckman is one of our best-known art photographers. Typical of his work are the large dark images with indefinable spaces and unfathomable situations. The giant digital photo print on Japanese silk paper that he made in 2008 for the completely renovated city hall reflects that atmosphere. The sculpture shows a baroque mirror and the reflection of what appears to be an elevator hall in an old apartment building. The artwork occupies a prominent place in a new staircase that connects the 18th- and 19th-century parts.
