On 24 March 1848, Jacobus Janssens-Muys, a wheelwright in Jabbeke, received permission from the Permanent Deputation of West Flanders to erect a stake mill on tars.
On 17 May 1901, in order to obtain a better windage, Alfons Van Kerrebroeck received permission from the Permanent Deputation to place the mill cabinet on a tower loft. It became a fairly high tower room with a gallery.
In 1911 the substructure was built higher, so that a stone scaffolding mill was obtained. The hood, with the inscription "18AR92" was purchased from the mayor and molinologist Alfred Ronse. Other older elements were incorporated into the brick mill, as evidenced by the date 1768 on the claw iron.
The mill had five attics and was also equipped with an oil mill. The Van Kerrebroeck windmill would make less and less use of wind power. From 1933 onwards, the mill could be powered by an arm gas engine from a detached wooden building. In 1939 a first rod was removed and in 1948 the entire roof was removed in addition to the second rod. From then on, the mill was only powered by an arm gas engine, which was replaced by a diesel engine in 1961. In the meantime, the mill was protected as a monument in 1944.
Now all that remains is the narrow stone hull. On the ground floor there is another mechanical mill with one stone couple that comes from another mill. Of the two stone couples in the stone attic (second attic), one is still on site; the other is outside.
Although the immediate vicinity is marred by a large business on the other side, the hull forms an iconic element on the edge of the village centre.
In 2007, the municipality of Jabbeke concluded a long-term lease agreement with the private owners, with a view to a thorough restoration. At the same time, a draft competition for study agreement was approved for the preparation of a design (municipal council meeting of 12 November 2007).
