Fort Saint-Job

Description

Fort Sint-Job was erected from 1604 onwards by order of Velasco to defend the city of Damme during the imminent invasion of the State troops. It is located along the southern bank of the Zoute Vaart. It was a bastioned square fort, partly planted on the course of the dike. Fort Saint-Job was demolished in 1783, after the conquest of the border area by Austrian troops. Today it is particularly nice to walk and cycle through this beautiful piece of nature.
