Baker's mill

The Bakkersmolen in the village of Wildert in the Belgian municipality of Essen is a museum complex built in 1980-81 consisting of a number of steam engines, a windmill, a bakery with wood-fired oven and a tavern. The official inauguration took place on 8 May 1981. The complex was commissioned by baker Frans Demedts, who had previously tried to buy both the Stenen Molen in Brecht and the Buitenmolen in Berendrecht. In Wildert he bought a two-century-old farmhouse, and in 1980 a building permit for a new mill was granted by the municipality of Essen. The windmill was designed by architect Lou Jansen from Turnhout. The masonry was carried out by J. van den Bleeken. The millwrights Jos and Jan Adriaens from Weert were responsible for the running work in the mill.
