This ice cellar was built in the second half of the 19th century and was intended for storing ice for the castle of Hernanmont. The ice was taken from the nearby ponds during the winter period. A central block and an entrance hall made of local slate form the core of the building. The 'tank' in the central block is separated from the outer wall by a hollow space that provided better thermal insulation. A small tower with a spiral staircase and a light tower complete the whole structure. The roof is covered with slate. A visit is possible by appointment at the following numbers: Infosalm: +32 80 21 50 52 - or M. Legros (+32 80 21 62 52)
